Our Story

Where it all began
How We Met

Our story has always revolved around travel.

We met in 2013 while backpacking through Europe — Dan from Australia, Bailey from Canada — and instantly connected over a shared love of adventure and seeing the world. After a year of long-distance messages and missed time zones, Bailey moved to Australia on a working holiday visa in 2014, and we finally got the chance to see where this travel-fueled connection might lead.

Spoiler alert: it led everywhere.

The “Normal Life”
That Didn’t Last Long

After traveling around Australia together, we briefly tried settling down in Darwin with regular jobs — Dan worked as a welder and Bailey as an office manager. But it didn’t take long for the travel itch to return.

So we saved as much as we could, booked a one-way ticket to South America, and made a simple plan: travel for as long as our bank accounts would allow.

That trip changed everything.

The Birth of
Destinationless Travel

While backpacking through South America on a shoestring budget, we started documenting our adventures online. At first, it was just a hobby — a creative outlet to share what we were learning along the way.

But as we continued traveling, readers began following along. Our little blog started to grow. One thing led to another, and before we knew it, that hobby had turned into our full-time career.

Since 2017, we’ve been fully nomadic — traveling the world and building a life centered around exploration, storytelling, and helping others plan unforgettable trips.

How We Travel
It’s all about the experience

Our travel style blends adventure with comfort.

We love joining food tours, sampling local cuisine, and tasting great wine just as much as we love camping, hiking, and finding ourselves on trails in far-flung places. One day we’re scuba diving; the next we’re relaxing on the beach with a piña colada in hand.

We’re equally happy staying in hostels or five-star resorts — because for us, it’s never been about the label, but the experience.

What we’ve learned
along the way

After more than a decade of traveling together (plus years of solo travel before we met), we’ve learned what works, what doesn’t, and what’s truly worth your time.

We’ve spent thousands — if not hundreds of thousands — of hours building Destinationless Travel, along with our other sites.

Everything we share is shaped by real experiences, detailed research, and years of navigating the world firsthand.

 Some of Our
Travel Highlights

We both had the most amazing time backpacking in South America – I mean, it is where the blog all started! Literally, we still talk about it every day and have been back several times since.

Somewhere between celebrating Carnival in Rio in Brazil, skydiving in Bolivia, scuba diving on San Andres Island, and hiking in Torres del Paine National Park, we fell in love with the continent.

That being said, we have had some incredible travel experiences all over the world. Off the top of our heads, some of our favorites are:

Our Team
Growing Beyond Just the Two of Us

As Destinationless Travel has grown, so has the team behind it.

While we still travel frequently ourselves, we now collaborate with a small group of trusted travel experts who revisit destinations, capture updated photos, gather new insights, and help keep our content fresh and accurate.

Our team includes a variety of travelers from around the world – we have parents, solo travelers, and even a married couple who are expats in Cambodia! Each traveler has their own areas of expertise, and they help us produce some of the best travel content on the internet. We couldn’t run this blog without their help.

Our Mission
Why We Do This

What started as a simple travel blog has grown into a full-time business — but our motivation hasn’t changed.

We genuinely love helping people explore new places with confidence. We believe travel should feel exciting, not overwhelming. And we believe the world is too big to stay in one place. The more we inspire people to travel, the better job we’re doing.

Our mission is simple:
to provide everything you need to travel farther, smarter, and with confidence.

We’re so glad you’re here — and if you ever need help, we’re only a message away.
